She is the founding director of the Ethel Donaghue Center for Translating Research into Practice and Policy (TRIPP) at UConn Health, and founding co-director of the Bioscience Connecticut Health Disparities Institute.

Dr. Fifield is a medical sociologist whose research has focused on health care practice and community oriented translational research (T2), as well as practical benefit interventions to reduce health disparities. Dr. Fifield was instrumental in the development of the Connecticut Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (CICATS), including roles as principle investigator of the Clinical and Translation Science Award (CTSA) Planning Grant, co-principle investigator of the first CTSA submission, co-director of the Community Engagement Core, and associate director and COO of CICATS from 2008-2012.
