Jonathan Harrision, M.D., joins the faculty of the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology with more than 25 years of clinical practice in academic medicine. Dr. Harrison received his undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and his medical degree from the University of Illinois. He trained in hematology and oncology at the University of Michigan, and had additional training in bone marrow transplant at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle. He was promoted from assistant professor to associate professor, and later to professor of medicine at what is now Rutgers University's Medical Education System, and he was director of the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Missouri prior to coming to UConn. Dr. Harrison has a longstanding research and clinical interest in normal and abnormal hematopoiesis, and his laboratory research has been focused primarily on the disease acute myeloid leukemia.

Acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplasia.  Also, normal and abnormal hematopoiesis; currently, in collaboration with the laboratory of Dr. G. Studzinski in the Department of Pathology, NJMS, Rutgers, examining the role of the cyclin regulator p35Nck5a and the Cdk5 & MAP Kinase pathways in myeloid leukemia response to Vitamin D analog treatment (co-investigator for NIH grant RO1 CA44722-25).  Additional research interests in clinical trials in Hematologic and Solid Tumor Malignancies and investigational treatment of Hematologic disorders, and in new therapies and clinical aspects of the Sickling Hemoglobinopathies.
