Steven M. Lepowsky currently serves as the Dean of the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. Prior to his appointment as Dean, Dr. Lepowsky served as Professor and Chair of the Division of General Dentistry and served as Senior Associate Dean for Education and Patient Care for 12 years. He previously served as the Associate Dean for Education and Patient Care, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, and as the Director of the General Dentistry residency program. Dr. Lepowsky earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery and subsequently completed a certificate program in general dentistry at Booth Memorial Medical Center in NY.

Prior to his work at UConn, Dr. Lepowsky was faculty at Columbia University and served as the Director of the Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program and Director of the Year 3 clinical program. During his tenure at UConn, Dr. Lepowsky was responsible for expanding the general dentistry training program, now one of the largest of its kind in the U.S. He was also responsible for the development and expansion of community-based activity throughout CT, initiating resident placement in community sites, directing predoctoral students' community-based experiences, and recruiting and placing junior clinical faculty through contractual arrangements with community sites. Dr. Lepowsky was responsible for expanding patient care services to adults with acquired and developmental disabilities and initiated partnerships with state agencies to support the delivery of care to underserved populations. He continues to treat patients with special health care needs.

Dr. Lepowsky has been PI on several funded HRSA training grants, including a recent HRSA grant supplement, which resulted in the development of both in-person and online education modules on opioid pain management for dentists. Dr. Lepowsky is a member of the ADA Council on Dental Education and Licensure and is Chair of the Council on Ethics of the CT State Dental Association. He also serves as a consultant for the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation, ADEA commissions and is a consultant for state and federal agencies.
