Upon completing her residency, she practiced at a community health center where she served as the medical director and a member of the company’s QA/QI team.
She joined the faculty at UConn in 2009 and divides her time between clinical care and teaching. She is a Professor of Medicine and a practicing Internal Medicine Primary Care physician focused on health prevention and high-quality chronic disease management; chronic pain and safe opioid prescribing; women’s health; LGBTQ+ care; and healthcare policy. She has been recognized for her clinical care as one of Hartford Magazines Top Doctors. Her roles at UConn Health include Director of Primary Care, physician lead for the Patient Centered Medical Home, Director of the Connecticut Comprehensive Pain Center, and Co-Chair of the Opioid Task Force. She is currently serving a national role as the Chair-Elect for the Board of Regents for the American College of Physicians.

Primary care, communication skills, chronic pain, health preventative, and chronic disease management
I am an Associate Program Director for the categorical internal medicine program and the lead physician at the Farmington Internal Medicine Associates office at UConn Health. Twice a week I teach residents during patient care in the afternoons. In my own practice, I also teach medicine residents, medical students, and APRNs. I have sought to create high value experiences in primary care for our patients and our learners. To do this, I created and currently manage our Office Based Medicine track, our Primary Care Expansion track, a public health curriculum, and provide consitent education for graduate education training in pain management and communication skills.
