Developmental, cellular and molecular biology of Oligodendrocytes, the cells that synthesize myelin membrane in the central nervous system; growth factor regulation of development and function and its relationship to neurodegenerative disease, including Multiple Sclerosis.Current research is focused on investigation of basic mechanisms of cell biology in a developmental context. (oligodendrocyte developmental lineage is the model system)--Molecular mechanisms of regulation of differentiation by growth factor receptors, including the application of transgenic mouse models, cell culture and transfection systems.
--Membrane biogenesis and function, including the role of glycosphingolipid-cholesterol microdomains (rafts) and signal transduction.
--The relationship of these to Multiple Sclerosis
