Dr. Lu is a tenured Professor in Biostatistics and Epidemiology at the Department of Public Health Sciences. He has a multidisciplinary background in biostatistics, epidemiology, and medicine, with specific teaching and research interests in the design and analysis of clinical studies, epidemiology and outcomes research of chronic diseases. As the Principal Investigator (PI), Co-Investigator (Co-I), and lead biostatistician, Dr. Lu has played a pivotal role in numerous established and innovative projects in various areas, including rheumatic diseases, osteoarthritis, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and nutritional epidemiology. Notably, he has been the PI for three major NIH R01 grants, focusing on the study of dietary factors in osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Before joining UCHC, Dr. Lu was an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard University, and the Director of Biostatistics and Lead Investigator at the Section of Clinical Sciences, Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Dr. Lu is an elected fellow of the American College of Epidemiology (FACE) and has served as an Associate Editor for Contemporary Clinical Trials, an international journal of clinical trial methodology. Furthermore, he has served as an Associate Editor for Arthritis & Rheumatology, a prestigious official journal of the American College of Rheumatology.
