Gianpaolo Rufo, first generation Italian American, was born and raised in the greater Boston area. He completed undergraduate education as a biology major with a pre-med track at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH, and went on to the University of New England in Biddeford, ME for his formal medical school training as a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO), where his training in osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) and deep passion for anatomy and physiology sparked his interest in sports and musculoskeletal medicine.
He then moved to Middletown, CT, to complete a residency in Family Medicine at Middlesex Health with a concentration in sports medicine. During that time, he was awarded the STFM Resident Teacher Award for demonstrating commitment to Family Medicine Education, as well as the David Baggish Rapid Response Team Recipient, which is awarded to an individual appointed by the nursing staff in recognition of his leadership, clinical excellence, and comprehensive staff support. He then completed his Sports Medicine fellowship with UConn, caring for athletes who ranged in high school to professional level of athletic experience, including Connecticut's very own Huskies.
Dr. Rufo is now practicing at UConn Health Family Medicine in the Canton office, seeing patients and teaching medical students. He is an active member of the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) and the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine (AMSSM). He cares for all patients of all ages, genders, and physical capabilities and is actively taking new patients. He has a passion for caring for patients who are active, want to remain active, or would like to become active.
