After earning her doctorate in public health and completing a postdoctoral fellowship in mental health research at Rutgers University, Dr. Jane Ungemack began working in 1994 as a Visiting Assistant Professor and then Assistant professor in Psychiatry at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. In 1997, she transfered her appointment to the Department of Community Medicine and Health Care.

The majority of Dr. Ungemack's research has been conducted in collaboration with and in support of the Connecticut Departments of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) and Children and Families (DCF). She has conducted numerous statewide substance abuse treatment and prevention needs assessment studies used to support state program and policy development, including adult household surveys, student surveys, studies of at-risk youth, social indicators analyses and community resource assessments. In addition to her research projects, Dr. Ungemack teaches courses in the Graduate Program in Public Health.

Dr. Ungemack is a health services researcher with a specialty focus in substance abuse treatment and prevention. She consults for the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) regarding substance abuse needs assessment and outcomes monitoring issues and the Department of Children and Families on adolescent substance abuse treatment. She is involved in research in assessing the effectiveness of treatment for adult and adolescent substance abusers, as well as the transfer of adolescent evidence-based treatment models to community practice.
